Communication and relationships

Updated: Aug 4, 2023

What's communication?

It is a term that we usually relate to speech, but we leave aside a key point to link relationships, so Alejandro Marchesan makes us reflect and become aware of the importance of building a new model of communication between human beings, which prioritizes the relationship before the message and is also based on the commitment to the relationship, responsible speaking and committed listening.

For this, we have as reference points such as: mental models, the distinction of power, relationships, results of relationships, trust, among others, these focused on organizations and their effectiveness. The following is a breakdown of each of these points:

1. Mental models:

Every day we can realize that in society relationships are increasingly deteriorated, and this is because we form mental models, in which we give more importance to the message than the information that is transferred and the truth included in that message than the people who are communicating, however at this point where we make this exchange there is something that is not prioritized and these are human relationships is very complex to imagine or build a different future. For what is proposed a "Productive Communication", where the message and productivity are the heart.

2. Power distinction

This part gives us a question to reflect on, which is: How powerful are you, your team, your organization to expand the horizon and change the reality, when considering this we can see the amount of results that appear in each individual, that is, in each reality, this is usually very variable and also depends on the power that each one has.

So we have that the power is the ability of each one to be able to act and generate results.

3. Relationships like a source of power:

The relationships that are forged lead to results.

This leads us to the fact that each of the relationships we have must be cultivated every day, not just left there, developing different competencies and even the continuous construction of this.

4.Relationship results:

As mentioned in the previous point, the results depend on the relationships we have. If we look behind us we can realize that at every stage of our lives there has been someone who has supported us to achieve an expected result, so it is important that they are cultivated every day and so we can get results that alone we can not.

5. The confidence

This is a pillar on which all relationships are based, this consists of 2 sides, to be able to be reliable for people and to be able to trust others, and some enemies of trust can be:

  • Insecurity: we do not know what to say or do before others.

  • Control: We believe that there is only one way for everything, we do not open ourselves to more possibilities, leaving everything else aside.

  • Individualism: Putting everything aside, as long as my well-being and that of my inner circle is fine.

However, if you apply the following points, you will achieve confidence:

  • Sincerity: Be consistent with what you say and what your heart really feels.

  • Efficiency: Having the necessary skills to perform a job or project generates confidence in the person who will make a choice for you or others.

  • Participate: Being a responsible part of something is a confidence builder, and will bring great results.

Now with these points in mind we can identify how to communicate, and how to build relationships that will help us along the way, how to cultivate and maintain them for the future.
